In honor of book club's kick-off and our first book of the month, The Silent Patient, here are some recommendations for all the readers out there. These are book club's must-reads, for whatever genre your escape from reality resides in!

Fiction

Firefly Lane by: Kristen Hannah

ree

“Loved this book because I love stories about friendships and girlhood that are so raw and authentic. The book explores different stages of life as a woman and a best friend, unraveling the complexities of our personalities and how we navigate relationships—both friendships and romantic ones. From feelings of jealousy and hurt to betrayal, it beautifully captures the love and ups and downs of truly having a best friend. Not to mention I was actually sobbing at the last few chapters!”– A Zeta

Carrie Soto is Back by: Taylor Jenkins Reid

ree

“Taylor Jenkins Reid is phenomenal but, I think Carrie Soto is my favorite book of hers. Carrie struggles with a lot of things I struggled with as a young woman, and reading about her character and how she overcame her challenges empowered and helped me too. I think the biggest thing I learned is that strength can look like many different things, but that doesn’t take away from its value, and this has helped me so much. I couldn’t love this book more!” – A Zeta

The Women by: Kristin Hannah

ree

“The descriptions in this book are amazing; you can 100% picture what's happening throughout the book. It's kind of historical-fiction vibes but literally so good!! I don't typically like historical fiction but Kristin Hannah is such an amazing writer!!” – A Zeta

Little Women by: Louisa May Alcott

ree

“This is my all-time favorite classic if you’re looking for one to read. It is lengthy but I finished it quicker than some of the shorter classics because the storyline is so fun! I recommend watching the movie first so that it all plays out while you read.” – A Zeta

Fantasy

Fourth Wing by: Rebecca Yarros

ree

“This book will get you out of a reading slump. So addictive and fun to read, it’s like a mix of Harry PotterGame of Thrones, and romance! Fourth Wing is my absolute all-time favorite book. It mixes romance with fantasy and brings an amazing story to life. It follows a young girl that faces trials as she is trying to become a dragon rider. It is filled with twists and turns.” -  A Zeta

Powerless by: Lauren Roberts

ree

“This series is SO SO GOOD! Think of a mix between the Hunger Games and the Selection! The last book is coming out in April, and I cannot wait that long.” – A Zeta

The Folk of the Air by: Holly Black

ree

This is one of the most well-written books I’ve ever read. The author is so creative and weaves riddles into the story so you literally never know what’s going to happen next; every book ends on a cliffhanger. If you like a lot of details surrounding the world the characters live in then this is perfect for you, along with books with undertones of romance rather than it being at the forefront of the plot. It’s definitely an enemies-to-lovers trope, they are still trying to kill and sabotage each other until the last book, but it’s more about diplomacy and war.” – A Zeta

Caraval by: Stephanie Garber

ree

“Caraval was such a fun read, and if you like anything related to games or riddles, this is a perfect series. I had a hard time getting started with Legendary and Finale because the main perspective changes between characters, but trust me the last two books are even better than the first one. There’s death, plot twists, love, friendship, and so many details that I absolutely loved!!” – A Zeta

Shatter Me by: Tahereh Mafi

ree

“This series is so good and brought me out of a reading slump! Aaron Warner is the ideal book boyfriend LOL It’s a super long series so be ready to lock in for a long time!” – A Zeta

Lightlark by: Alex Aster

ree

“This series is possibly my favorite series. It had a love triangle, and it’s honestly so hard to pick between the two love interests! It’s easily understandable for fantasy books too!” – A Zeta

Before the Coffee Gets Cold by: Toshikazu Kawaguchi

ree

“This book is a collection of 4 separate stories that share the same setting. It was a really moving read - particularly the story that is about 2 sisters. It made me reflect on how special the relationship with my own sister is. It makes you appreciate the passage of time and how the past and the present are super intertwined.” – A Zeta

Harry Potter by: J.K. Rowling

ree

“The Harry Potter series is my favorite series ever. The plot building is so good and it’s almost like you are growing up with the characters :)” – A Zeta

Thriller/Mystery

Gone Girl by: Gillian Flynn

ree

“The twist in this book is insane and will make you not want to put it down. It’s a classic thriller and there’s a movie to go with it!” – A Zeta

Verity by: Colleen Hoover

ree

“I didn’t know what to expect from this book and I think that’s the best way to go into it. It felt like crazy mind-games and the ending is definitely worth waiting for! This book had my jaw on the ground the entire time, and that's all I have to say about it. It is kind of creepy, but it also has a romantic side to it. Overall, just an interesting dynamic.” – A Zeta

The House Across the Lake by: Riley Sager

ree

“The house across the lake is very interesting with many plot twists so it kept me wanting to read it. I love a good mystery so I was constantly guessing what was going to happen. This book has an old and new love interest involved which makes the book even more dramatic. If you like murder mysteries with a little bit of love involved and extreme plot twists, this book is for you!!” – A Zeta

Swiped by: L.M. Chilton

ree

“This book is so fun! Picked it up in Colorado to read on the plane ride home and got hooked instantly! It’s about a girl whose dating app seemingly wreaks havoc when all her dates mysteriously end up dead. There’s a crazy plot twist at the end and I definitely recommend picking this book up!” – A Zeta

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by: Holly Jackson

ree

“This series literally brought me out of a reading slump. I probably stayed up so many nights reading until 3am because I couldn’t put them down. I really think it’s the perfect book for people who want to get into reading and don’t know what to start with!” – A Zeta

We Were Liars by: E. Lockhart

ree

“I’ve read this book twice, and I didn’t really understand it at first, but the second time I read it, it shook me to my core. This has a plot twist that I couldn’t see coming and once I realized what happened, I felt like I had to rethink my life LOL. But, it is such a great book about summers on a private island!” – A Zeta

Romance/RomCom

Magnolia Parks by: Jessa Hastings

ree

“This book made me love reading! I spent past Christmas break reading this whole series, and was instantly obsessed with the story. The character dynamics are so interesting, and you have such a love/hate relationship with so many of the characters it’s addicting.” – A Zeta

Binding 13 by: Chloe Walsh

ree

“Binding 13 and Keeping 13 and the whole Boys of Tommen series show love, the raw parts. It is honestly gut-wrenching but addicting to read because of how love was brought between characters and what they did for each other to show their love. The books do have a lot of trauma such as domestic abuse and drugs but ties the story together extremely well. So be prepared to feel every possible emotion reading this series.” – A Zeta

Love and Other Words by: Christina Lauren

ree

“This book broke my heart and put it back together. It was the sweetest book I have ever read.” – A Zeta

The Hating Game by: Sally Thorne

ree

“About two coworkers who hate each other (from the girl’s perspective!) but then realize they actually just find each other annoyingly attractive and are envious of the other. Thennnn they go on a work bonding trip and things start brewing… and thennnnn they start to like each other! It’s not a slow or fast burn, it’s like a medium burn and it had me HOOKED! Even at the beginning when they hated each other it was a fun read!” – A Zeta

The Deal by: Elle Kennedy

ree

The Deal by Elle Kennedy is part of a 5-book series, all revolving around 4 boys who play hockey/live together in college. This plot seems cliche, he needs help with a class so she becomes his tutor, but trust me it’s the sweetest book ever. Hannah has a rough past that Garret helps her with and it was such a comforting read, especially if you struggle with any of the themes in the book. 1000/10 my comfort read!!” – A Zeta

Hook, Line, and Sinker by: Tessa Bailey

ree

“The book is just so cute and has funny moments too. It also has a really good plot, and it wasn’t ever boring. For people who cannot sit down for long periods to read, this is a good one.” – A Zeta

The Notebook by: Nicholas Sparks

ree

“The Notebook had me in tears of joy and sadness. It is a book of yearning and class differences.” – A Zeta

A Thousand Boy Kisses by: Tillie Cole

ree

“This book is perfect if you need a good cry. It’s such a cute, but sad and wholesome romance that blooms from two people who have loved each other from a young age. I’ve read it so many times and it never fails to make me sob LOL” – A Zeta

Expiration Dates by: Rebecca Serle

ree

Expiration Dates is such an easy read if you are looking for a good romance! The plot is very interesting and it has good characters, overall it’s just a cute story. If you are looking for a quick read that you will love definitely read this!” – A Zeta

The Summer of Broken Rules by: K.L Walther

ree

“This book was SO GOOD!! It was such an easy read and it reminds me of the song Hey Stephen by Taylor Swift! It’s a great summer romance book that also brings in a crazy plot twist!” – A Zeta

November 9 by: Colleen Hoover

ree

“I LOVED this! It’s a romance book about a girl learning how to love herself again while also falling in love with a boy! While it’s focused on romance, it also has an insane plot twist that had me stuck on it for days!!” – A Zeta

Memoir

My Body by: Emily Ratajkowski

ree

“My Body is genuinely one of the best books I have ever read. Emily Ratajkowski talks about some heavy topics and the highs and lows of her modeling career, describing what it is like to be in the industry. She is very honest and raw in her essays and relatable to lots of women today.” – A Zeta
